BUSINESS CLOSED in 2016, after 25 years.

Businesses and organizations participating in HER Helmet Thursdays help HER / Mother Earth by providing discounts on Thursdays for people who bike. A long-term project with no scheduled end-date, HER Helmet Thursdays was launched in 2009 in Monterey County, California as a public service. NOTE: When participating businesses and organizations sign up, they are provided a staff reference sheet. Many have frequent staff changes. Just in case a staff person on duty isn't familiar with this long-term project, it may be helpful to have the listing for that location pulled up on your mobile phone screen (or print a copy of their listing to take along), so you're prepared to kindly show their listing.
Before claiming discount, refer to FAQs and project details, including date restrictions, in "LISTINGS, Map, How to Get the Discounts, and FAQs about HER Helmet Thursdays" at

Highly acclaimed by attendees at the nearby Monterey Conference Center for delicious omelettes and terrific service, Pino's has a breakfast and lunch menu including Italian favorites. It's also a great stop for gelato, ice cream, and Italian coffee.

Ricardo A. Diaz's March 2011 review in the Salinas Californian highlighted this popular spot; when the review is not online, you may request a copy from

Bike rack located conveniently nearby. Pino's has outdoor tables in front, and it's also surrounded by picture windows. That means that in any weather, if you have a pricey bike you want to keep a sharp eye on, this is a great location for you!

Bike-there directions for Pino's Cafe:

Coming from the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail (the Class I/off-road bike/multi-use path), Pino's is very near the top of Old Fisherman's Wharf/Wharf #1.

From Wharf #1, Pino's is located across the Custom House Plaza, which is the State of California's State Historic Landmark #1, and also serves as the beautiful gateway between the coastal trail and downtown Monterey.

Once you cross the Custom House Plaza, you'll enter the brick walkway officially named the Alvarado Mall. On your right, you'll see a bike rental shop, Adventures-by-the-Sea. And on your left, Pino's Cafe.

Not familiar with Custom House Plaza and Alvarado Mall? Want to see a picture of those--and Pino's? See "Where the Plazas Are" at the Bicycling Monterey website:
