Description:

ABOUT THE HER HELMET THURSDAYS PROJECT:
Businesses and organizations participating in HER Helmet Thursdays help HER / Mother Earth by providing discounts on Thursdays for people who bike. A long-term project with no scheduled end-date, HER Helmet Thursdays was launched in 2009 in Monterey County, California as a public service. NOTE: When participating businesses and organizations sign up, they are provided a staff reference sheet. Many have frequent staff changes. Just in case a staff person on duty isn't familiar with this long-term project, it may be helpful to have the listing for that location pulled up on your mobile phone screen (or print a copy of their listing to take along), so you're prepared to kindly show their listing.
Before claiming discount, refer to FAQs and project details, including date restrictions, in "LISTINGS, Map, How to Get the Discounts, and FAQs about HER Helmet Thursdays" at http://www.bikemonterey.org.

ABOUT THIS PARTICIPANT:
Located just a "hop, skip, and jump" from the National Steinbeck Center, Mi Tierra is easily found, and appreciated, by visitors. It's also a locals' hot-spot, including favored by many from the Salinas urban cycling scene.

Monterey County Weekly food blogger Mark C. Anderson raves about Mi Tierra being one of his favorite places for al pastor.

Bike Tips:

Front windows of Mi Tierra face Main Street. Bike racks on Main. Visitors from the San Francisco Bay area often bring their bikes via Amtrak train.

Tourists and local residents coming from the Monterey Peninsula may want to transport their bikes to Salinas on Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST)/ "The Bus," then bike around Oldtown and other Salinas destinations.

Mi Tierra is close to MST's Salinas Transit Center and to the Amtrak station.
