Description:

ABOUT THE HER HELMET THURSDAYS PROJECT:
Businesses and organizations participating in HER Helmet Thursdays help HER / Mother Earth by providing discounts on Thursdays for people who bike. A long-term project with no scheduled end-date, HER Helmet Thursdays was launched in 2009 in Monterey County, California as a public service. NOTE: When participating businesses and organizations sign up, they are provided a staff reference sheet. Many have frequent staff changes. Just in case a staff person on duty isn't familiar with this long-term project, it may be helpful to have the listing for that location pulled up on your mobile phone screen (or print a copy of their listing to take along), so you're prepared to kindly show their listing.
Before claiming discount, refer to FAQs and project details, including date restrictions, in "LISTINGS, Map, How to Get the Discounts, and FAQs about HER Helmet Thursdays" at http://www.bikemonterey.org.

ABOUT THIS PARTICIPANT:
Kindly note that reservations are required.

Daily Seasonal Menu featuring Local Ingredients and Hand-Crafted Pasta.

Readers of the Monterey County Weekly voted la Balena "Best New Restaurant in Monterey County in 2013." http://www.montereycountyweekly.com/news/2013/mar/14/best-new-restaurant/

Are you a meat and potatoes kind of person? A side of La Balena's crispy potatoes, with aioli, are likely to please any potato-lover's palate! And meatballs, lamb, and multiple other choices are favorites with carnivores.

Vegetarians will delight in La Balena's perfectly seasoned side of chard, salads made from fresh local ingredients, and more.

Bike Tips:

Remember to make a reservation before biking to la Balena.

One idea is to park your car at Carmel Beach, or perhaps the Carmel Mission, then take a nice bike ride up the hill to get a fresh-air workout before lunch at La Balena! Biking is a great solution to avoiding parking problems in Carmel. After lunch, bike around and enjoy the shops and galleries. Then reward yourself with that downhill ride and stretch out on the beach for an afternoon nap, or enjoy meditating in the courtyard at the Mission. What a lovely way to spend some time in Carmel.

La Balena is on Junipero Avenue, between Fifth and Sixth, just across from Bruno's Market.

Another option: coming from elsewhere in the county? Use the MST bike-and-ride option to buses that go to Carmel Plaza. Then hop on your bike and pedal to the very nearby La Balena; and after your meal (or before), explore the streets of Carmel on two wheels.
