Description:

ABOUT THE HER HELMET THURSDAYS PROJECT:
Businesses and organizations participating in HER Helmet Thursdays help HER / Mother Earth by providing discounts on Thursdays for people who bike. A long-term project with no scheduled end-date, HER Helmet Thursdays was launched in 2009 in Monterey County, California as a public service. NOTE: When participating businesses and organizations sign up, they are provided a staff reference sheet. Many have frequent staff changes. Just in case a staff person on duty isn't familiar with this long-term project, it may be helpful to have the listing for that location pulled up on your mobile phone screen (or print a copy of their listing to take along), so you're prepared to kindly show their listing.
Before claiming discount, refer to FAQs and project details, including date restrictions, in "LISTINGS, Map, How to Get the Discounts, and FAQs about HER Helmet Thursdays" at http://www.bikemonterey.org.

ABOUT THIS PARTICIPANT:
Knuckles has been voted Best Sports Bar in Monterey County repeatedly--including in 2012--in the Monterey County Weekly annual readers poll. http://www.montereycountyweekly.com/news/2012/mar/14/best-sports-bar-2012/

Bike Tips:

Knuckles Sports Bar, located at the Hyatt Regency Monterey, is a very convenient location for cyclists coming from the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail. Leave the Coastal Trail at the Del Monte Avenue and Sloat Avenue intersection. Bike up Sloat Avenue, whose bike lanes run directly alongside the Naval Postgraduate School campus. It's only about a half-mile ride from the Coastal Trail to the Hyatt, and it's an easy, flat ride at that!

Knuckles Sports Bar is also handy for bicyclists who want to bike there from any of the numerous special events at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. Tired of fairground-style food? Depart the fairgrounds at the entrance nearest the fairgrounds office (by the traffic light). You will be at the intersection with Garden Road, where Fairground Road becomes Mark Thomas Drive. Take Mark Thomas (which has bike lanes). Bike past Santa Catalina School, which will be on your left, and continue the short distance to the Hyatt. This ride is easy too--mostly flat, with only a very moderate hill.
