Description:

ABOUT THE HER HELMET THURSDAYS PROJECT:
Businesses and organizations participating in HER Helmet Thursdays help HER / Mother Earth by providing discounts on Thursdays for people who bike. A long-term project with no scheduled end-date, HER Helmet Thursdays was launched in 2009 in Monterey County, California as a public service. NOTE: When participating businesses and organizations sign up, they are provided a staff reference sheet. Many have frequent staff changes. Just in case a staff person on duty isn't familiar with this long-term project, it may be helpful to have the listing for that location pulled up on your mobile phone screen (or print a copy of their listing to take along), so you're prepared to kindly show their listing.
Before claiming discount, refer to FAQs and project details, including date restrictions, in "LISTINGS, Map, How to Get the Discounts, and FAQs about HER Helmet Thursdays" at http://www.bikemonterey.org.

ABOUT THIS PARTICIPANT:
This Tacos El Jalisciense is on the corner of East Alisal and Madeira in Salinas.

Hard to find yummy late-night food? At this location, you're covered! Check the hours on their website: http://tacoseljalisciense.com/contact-tacos-el-jalisciense-of-salinas-ca.htm (As of 10/15/13, they're open til midnight Monday through Thursday, and until 1 a.m. on weekends!) Authentic Mexican food and bright, casual atmosphere make this place popular with locals and visitors alike. Plus they have very reasonable prices!

Their sopes are one of the many menu items that get return customers back again and again. They are also popular for their prompt, friendly service.

Are you a touring cyclist carrying a lot of gear that you don't want to remove from your bike while you go into a restaurant? Large picture windows on all three sides of the dining room here make it easy to keep your eye on your bike while you relax with your meal.

Alisal street bike lanes pass right in front of this restaurant. Alisal is nearly all flat. Between Oldtown/downtown and East Salinas, there is just one slight hill that is even cinchy for out-of-shape folks. Enjoy!

Make use of the Alisal bike lanes, or if biking with children or otherwise using sidewalks: exercise extra caution at driveways and intersections, and observe local sidewalk ordinance and etiquette.

See tips for sidewalk riding, including Salinas ordinance on the Bicycling Monterey website. Check Bicycling Monterey for any updates to these sidewalk instructions: bike cautiously and at a reasonable speed; yield to all pedestrian traffic; give an audible signal before overtaking and passing pedestrian.
