Description:

ABOUT THE HER HELMET THURSDAYS PROJECT:
Businesses and organizations participating in HER Helmet Thursdays help HER / Mother Earth by providing discounts on Thursdays for people who bike. A long-term project with no scheduled end-date, HER Helmet Thursdays was launched in 2009 in Monterey County, California as a public service. NOTE: When participating businesses and organizations sign up, they are provided a staff reference sheet. Many have frequent staff changes. Just in case a staff person on duty isn't familiar with this long-term project, it may be helpful to have the listing for that location pulled up on your mobile phone screen (or print a copy of their listing to take along), so you're prepared to kindly show their listing.
Before claiming discount, refer to FAQs and project details, including date restrictions, in "LISTINGS, Map, How to Get the Discounts, and FAQs about HER Helmet Thursdays" at http://www.bikemonterey.org.

ABOUT THIS PARTICIPANT:
Family owned and operated since 1982, serving traditional Mexican food tortas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas and more for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also serve fresh Mexican pastries daily, along with traditional Mexican beverages and Seattle's best coffee. Nutrition facts available. Great customer service.

Bike Tips:

Located on N. Sanborn Road. Recommended route from downtown Salinas is to get on Alisal Street, which has bike lanes, and cycle east. About 2 miles out, turn LEFT onto N. Sanborn at intersection of E. Alisal and Sanborn. It's a very busy intersection with stores on all corners. La Plaza Bakery & Cafe is almost immediately on the RIGHT side on N. Sanborn Road.

If biking with children or otherwise biking on sidewalks: exercise extra caution at driveways and intersections, and observe local sidewalk ordinance and etiquette.

See tips for sidewalk riding, including Salinas ordinance on the Bicycling Monterey website. Check Bicycling Monterey for any updates to these sidewalk instructions: bike cautiously and at a reasonable speed; yield to all pedestrian traffic; give an audible signal before overtaking and passing pedestrian.
