Businesses and organizations participating in HER Helmet Thursdays help HER / Mother Earth by providing discounts on Thursdays for people who bike. A long-term project with no scheduled end-date, HER Helmet Thursdays was launched in 2009 in Monterey County, California as a public service. NOTE: When participating businesses and organizations sign up, they are provided a staff reference sheet. Many have frequent staff changes. Just in case a staff person on duty isn't familiar with this long-term project, it may be helpful to have the listing for that location pulled up on your mobile phone screen (or print a copy of their listing to take along), so you're prepared to kindly show their listing.
Before claiming discount, refer to FAQs and project details, including date restrictions, in "LISTINGS, Map, How to Get the Discounts, and FAQs about HER Helmet Thursdays" at

The Golden Tee's sand dabs have long been popular with many Monterey County residents, and visitors are delighted to discover that this is an airport restaurant with tasty food. Visit the Golden Tee's website and check out their menu.

Note: The Golden Tee has been in the HER Helmet Thursdays Project since January 4, 2012. As reported by Monterey County Weekly on July 2, 2019 (, the Golden Tee will soon be under new ownership, Carmel’s Pepe International. We reached out to the new owner; as of July 18, 2019, Golden Tee remains in the HER Helmet Thursdays Project.

Bike Tips:

Located just off the Monterey-Salinas Highway 68, at the Monterey Regional Airport--and parallel to the popular Garden Road bicycle lanes!

The Golden Tee is an easy-to-follow bike route from the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail.

Directions from the Coastal Trail are as follows:

1. Leave the bike/multi-use path at Casa Verde and Del Monte. (Not familiar with Casa Verde? There’s a traffic light at Casa Verde and Del Monte, and it is next to the Monterey Adult School.)

2.Bike up Casa Verde, which is a flat route--only one very, very short, slight incline before Fremont. Continue past Fremont until you reach the T-intersection at Fairgrounds Road. (Just after Casa Verde crosses Fremont Ave, you'll see the large Beverly's Fabrics/Crafts store on your right and the fairgrounds marquee straight ahead of you.)

3.Turn right on Fairgrounds Road and continue to the traffic signal.

4.Turn left onto Garden Road. Bike the full length of Garden Road (mostly flat, except for one stretch of uphill riding--which makes for a super easy return trip!).

5.At the end of Garden Road, you'll come to a T-intersection, which is Olmsted Road. Make a left and you'll enter the Monterey Regional Airport.

6. Continue to the terminal, lock up your bike, and go upstairs to the Golden Tee. Enjoy great views, a full bar, friendly service, and yummy food!
