Description:

ABOUT THE HER HELMET THURSDAYS PROJECT:
Businesses and organizations participating in HER Helmet Thursdays help HER / Mother Earth by providing discounts on Thursdays for people who bike. A long-term project with no scheduled end-date, HER Helmet Thursdays was launched in 2009 in Monterey County, California as a public service. NOTE: When participating businesses and organizations sign up, they are provided a staff reference sheet. Many have frequent staff changes. Just in case a staff person on duty isn't familiar with this long-term project, it may be helpful to have the listing for that location pulled up on your mobile phone screen (or print a copy of their listing to take along), so you're prepared to kindly show their listing.
Before claiming discount, refer to FAQs and project details, including date restrictions, in "LISTINGS, Map, How to Get the Discounts, and FAQs about HER Helmet Thursdays" at http://www.bikemonterey.org.

ABOUT THIS PARTICIPANT:
Discount of 10% applies not only to tea and snacks but to entire shop's sales.

Cha-ya is a unique gift and tea shop specializing in high quality Japanese green teas.

We offer a wide variety of art, antiques, and gifts too (and are allowing the 10% HER Helmet Thursdays discount, to cyclists on Thursdays, for all these items!).

We also serve our delicious teas "to go" daily.

Bike Tips:

Located in the heart of Old Monterey, across the street from the side of the Monterey Post Office.

Cha-ya is a short ride from the coastal bike path as follows: from Wharf #2, cross Del Monte Avenue and go straight up Figueroa (you'll see La Casa Bodega on your left at the corner of Del Monte & Figueroa). Continue on Figueroa all the way to Pearl, which is just after Jacks Park (you'll see the back side of the park on your right-hand side as you cycle). Turn RIGHT on Pearl.

Soon you'll come to a stop sign with a bank on your right. Turn LEFT onto Abrego (and don't be confused by the fact that the street to the right is Washington--that's how Old Monterey streets can be sometimes!).

Make a RIGHT on Webster. Continue on Webster through the traffic light at Munras. Continue up Webster; you'll go just past Cass Street (which angles off to your left), and Cha-ya will be immediately on your left.
