Businesses and organizations participating in HER Helmet Thursdays help HER / Mother Earth by providing discounts on Thursdays for people who bike. A long-term project with no scheduled end-date, HER Helmet Thursdays was launched in 2009 in Monterey County, California as a public service. NOTE: When participating businesses and organizations sign up, they are provided a staff reference sheet. Many have frequent staff changes. Just in case a staff person on duty isn't familiar with this long-term project, it may be helpful to have the listing for that location pulled up on your mobile phone screen (or print a copy of their listing to take along), so you're prepared to kindly show their listing.
Before claiming discount, refer to FAQs and project details, including date restrictions, in "LISTINGS, Map, How to Get the Discounts, and FAQs about HER Helmet Thursdays" at

Nestled in the sunshine-bathed amber hills above the Cachagua region of Carmel Valley (Monterey County, California), and brushed by gentle cooling ocean breezes, Heller Estate Organic Vineyards has been producing luscious fruit-laden grapes since 1968.

Heller Estate pioneered the Carmel Valley viticultural area and is now celebrating 43 years of making great wine. All of our vines are estate grown and all of our wines are estate bottled.

Fed by underground springs, the essentially dry-farmed, certified organically grown grapes result in premium wines that are exceptionally age-worthy.

Our picnic area is located in our sculpture garden, adjacent to our tasting room. Customers may taste gourmet food samples of olive oil, vinegars, and specialty sauces while shopping in our boutique for wine-related gifts.

The vineyard is located in the Carmel Valley appellation, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Pinot Noir.

On June 6, 2011, Heller was honored as the 27th Assembly District's Small Business of the Year. Why? Assemblyman Bill Monning stated: "I selected Heller Estate as the 27th Assembly District's Small Business of the Year because of its long term commitment to making environmentally friendly wines and to creating a safe work environment," Monning said. "I have had the opportunity to visit Heller Estate and was impressed by what the Hellers have done to implement these best management practices." Congratulations to this bike-friendly, earth-friendly, worker-friendly business!
