Description:

ABOUT THE HER HELMET THURSDAYS PROJECT:
Businesses and organizations participating in HER Helmet Thursdays help HER / Mother Earth by providing discounts on Thursdays for people who bike. A long-term project with no scheduled end-date, HER Helmet Thursdays was launched in 2009 in Monterey County, California as a public service. NOTE: When participating businesses and organizations sign up, they are provided a staff reference sheet. Many have frequent staff changes. Just in case a staff person on duty isn't familiar with this long-term project, it may be helpful to have the listing for that location pulled up on your mobile phone screen (or print a copy of their listing to take along), so you're prepared to kindly show their listing.
Before claiming discount, refer to FAQs and project details, including date restrictions, in "LISTINGS, Map, How to Get the Discounts, and FAQs about HER Helmet Thursdays" at http://www.bikemonterey.org.

ABOUT THIS PARTICIPANT:
Located on Alvarado Street in the heart of Monterey, the Monterey Hotel is surrounded by California history, restaurants, retail shops, and more.

Bike Tips:

Monterey Hotel is about two and a half blocks from the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail (bike/multi-use path) and Old Fisherman's Wharf, and one mile from the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Leaving the bike path at Fisherman's Wharf, cross the Custom House Plaza. (See "Where the Plazas Are in City of Monterey" - http://marilynch.com/blog/where-is-in-the-city-of-monterey.html ) You'll be on Del Monte Avenue, at a T-intersection where it meets Alvarado Street. You may walk up Alvarado on the sidewalk from here. Or, to bike from the Del Monte-Alvarado T-intersection, note that cyclists are directed to the right, to use Calle Principal (because Alvarado is a one-way street). No worries, Calle Principal is a wider street anyway!

Bike up Calle Principal until you see Comerica Bank on your left. Get off your bike there and walk through the little Bonifacio Plaza; you'll quickly reach Alvarado Street (Britannia Arms will be on your right). Turn left and head down Alvarado to the Monterey Hotel, which will be on your left, before Alvarado and Franklin Streets.
