ABOUT THE HER HELMET THURSDAYS PROJECT:
Businesses and organizations participating in HER Helmet Thursdays provide discounts on Thursdays for males and females who bike.
For FAQs, project-wide date restrictions, and other details, see "H-E-R Helmet Thurs INFO" section at http://www.HERHelmetThursdays.com, or call 831.375.6278.

ABOUT THIS PARTICIPANT:
The National Steinbeck Center is located in historic Oldtown Salinas, 17 miles from the Monterey Peninsula.

John Steinbeck was not only a Nobel prize-winning author, he was an environmentalist, so it's not surprising that the Steinbeck Center encourages visitors to bike. "Bicycle Parking" is first on their website's parking page, and the Center was the first educational participant in the HER Helmet Thursdays project.

Visit their website to learn the many reasons why the National Steinbeck Center is a jewel in the crown for Monterey County!

Bike Tips:

Visitors from the San Francisco Bay area often bring their bikes via Amtrak train.

Tourists and local residents coming from the Monterey Peninsula may want to transport their bikes to Salinas on Monterey-Salinas Transit / MST "The Bus," then bike around Oldtown and other Salinas destinations.

The Steinbeck Center is close to MST's Salinas Transit Center and to the Amtrak station.

See the "Bike-and-Ride" section of Tips for Bicycling Monterey County for helpful pointers on taking your bike aboard the train or bus. http://http://marilynch.com/blog/tips-for-tourists/the-bike-and-ride-option
